In partnership with Hackney Council, England Beach Soccer is delighted to announce the temporary construction of a Beach Soccer Park in Shoreditch Park in the heart of London during June 2010.
Centrally located, Shoreditch Park is within easy access from multiple bus routes, overland rail and the Northern Line Underground and is approximately a 15 minute walk from Liverpool Street and Kings Cross stations.
The park will play host to a number of televised international beach soccer fixtures including an eight team knockout tournament involving some of Europe’s’ finest exponents of the sport. The fixtures are scheduled to coincide with a number of England’s World Cup fixtures which fans will be able to watch on a big screen.
The Tournament will be played in a temporary stadium which will include a purpose built secured sand arena.
As well as the 30 sq metre big screen showing live world cup matches, there will be 4000 seats, a thousand tons of sand, food concessions as well as a range of other interactive games, and exhibitions.
Throughout the period there will be additional grass roots beach soccer programmes including coaching and competitions for all ages and abilities. Fans will be able to get up close and personal with members of the England Beach Soccer Squad who will be on hand to give tips and advice.
The Beach Soccer Park will be the destination event for football fans during South Africa 2010
Councillor Nargis Khan, Hackney Council's Cabinet Member for Community Services said: “We are delighted to be working with England Beach Soccer to bring this exciting sport to the heart of our Borough, the timing means the local community can enjoy a true shared party atmosphere not just for the international fixtures happening here on the sand but also those being contested at the same time in South Africa”
John Hawkins, CEO of England Beach Soccer, added: “Shoreditch Park provides a perfect setting to stage our flagship event of the 2010 season, as well as providing a wonderful environment for football fans, not lucky enough to be in South Africa, to share the excitement of the World Cup. Most importantly for England Beach Soccer we have the opportunity to introduce many thousands of local residents to our wonderful sport and give England fans the chance to cheer on their full national team here in London.”
