England Beach Soccer (EBS) and the Body and Mind Leisure Club have very recently forged a relationship that will see the club become the training base for the national team. John Hawkins Chief Executive of EBS said “The facilities here are outstanding for beach sports and the level of interest already shown in what is a new sport in England has been very exciting. Together I’m certain we will be delivering some top class national and international events, and I’m sure it won’t be long until we welcome our first Canterbury based player into the England squad”.
Lee Whatman, Centre Manager at Body and Mind Leisure Club, were also quick to express their excitement about the continued growth of beach soccer in the local region “We are extremely excited to be involved with such an exciting sport such as beach soccer and proud to closely affiliated to a national team.”
Players as far as Liverpool attended Kent’s only urban sand pitch in the attempt to make it into Terry’s first team squad. Also on hand to identify emerging England Beach Soccer talent was one of Tottenham Hotspur’s leading scouts, Carl Dixon.
“It was great to have Carl there” said England’s Head Coach “his knowledge of football particularly on the technical side is second to none. Having decent technical ability is a big part of being a good beach soccer player and being able to get Carl’s insight on the players in attendance was a massive bonus ”
With such an array of gifted beach soccer players emerging in England, Terry Bowes will certainly have a hard time deciding on his 10 man team for the trip to the Canary Islands. The event will play host to some of the top beach soccer nations, including, Spain, Switzerland and Germany.
“The competition for places has increased dramatically which can only beneficial for England” Bowes said “I intend to take this team to the next level. To have so many quality players at my disposal is not only important for the continued development of the team but also shows how far the sport has progressed. I will certainly have a tough decision in selecting my squad.”
