Beach soccer comes to Portsmouth this Aug. |
The Hampshire FA and EBS are delighted to announce a twist to this summers HFA beach soccer cup.
The Hampshire FA cup is traditionally one of the most prestigious events on the beach soccer calender for the best and most established teams, however this year HFA and EBS have decided to try something a little different.
Taking place on Southsea seafront at Portsmouth's very own bespoke sand centre on Aug 1st and 2nd, EBS, Portsmouth Council, Hampshire FA, Canterbury, Portsmouth FC and a major children's TV stations (details to follow) are teaming up to deliver a beach soccer weekend to remember.
The hope is to develop the beach soccer scene within Portsmouth and the Hampshire area, and to show people that this fantastic facility is available for all sand sports. John Hawkins, chief executive of England beach soccer said "We are all really excited about this event in Portsmouth, Hampshire is already the UK hotbed of beach soccer in England with the most established beach soccer event just over the water on the IOW, here the vast majority of the UK's best teams play, it would be wonderful if we can create a scene in Portsmouth and set up some cross Solent club and county matches". "The fun day will include a whole day of free activities and beach soccer coaching for children on Sat and a 8 teams men's and 4 team ladies event on the Sunday".
There will be fun and games, on and off the sand for everyone over the weekend and as an added cherry EBS hopes that the kids day will be part of an even larger national tour where EBS scouts will identify 2 children from the area to be selected to play for an England Under 12's team that will face a Spanish Under 12's team in early Feb at Butlins, Minehead.
The kids day is open to children of all ages and both sexes from all around the county. If your school or club team fancies coming along top try out for England and experience this great game contact Chris Smith at the Hampshire FA.
The two cup events are going to be ideally targeted at new teams, so any new or unregistered beach soccer teams will be given priority.
John Hawkins added "The plan is to re establish the HFA beach soccer cup next season to it's original standing of one of the premium cups, but hopefully this time with an even greater number of teams for all across Hampshire."
